The name "Punjab" literally means "Land of Five Rivers"—the Sutlej, Beas, Ravi, Chenab, and Jhelum .

The first feature film ever produced in the Punjab region was the silent film , released in 1928 .

The region is bounded by the Himalayas to the north and the Suleiman Range to the west.
