Clean: Soap Scum

Natural stone is highly sensitive to acids. Using vinegar, lemon juice, or harsh chemical descalers will etch the stone, leaving permanent dull spots and damage.

Rinse the area thoroughly with warm water. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the surface dry and inspect your work. Repeat the process on any remaining stubborn spots. For Natural Stone (Marble, Granite, Travertine) clean soap scum

If you live in an area with very hard water, a whole-house water softener is the ultimate solution. By removing the calcium and magnesium from your water supply, you stop the chemical reaction that creates soap scum at the source. You can treat clean glass shower doors and ceramic tiles with a specialized glass water repellent. This creates a barrier that causes water and soap to bead up and roll off rather than stick.

For vertical surfaces or thick crusts, mix baking soda with a small amount of white vinegar to create a thick paste. The fizzing reaction helps lift the scum. Apply the paste to the heavy buildup, let it sit for twenty minutes, and then scrub with a non-scratch sponge before rinsing.

When soap scum has already taken hold, standard bathroom cleaners often fall short because they cannot dissolve the hardened mineral compounds. You need an acidic cleaner to break the chemical bond between the soap fats and the minerals.
