As Enrico Piaggio would have wanted, Vespa continues to thrive, an enduring symbol of Italian design, innovation, and the joy of the open road.
In 1946, Enrico Piaggio and his team began working on a prototype, which they called MP6. This early version featured a 98cc engine, a manual transmission, and a top speed of about 40 km/h (25 mph). Although primitive, the MP6 was the foundation for the first Vespa scooter.
Enrico, a talented engineer and entrepreneur, was determined to save the family business. He spent countless hours brainstorming and experimenting, searching for a innovative solution to revive the company. That solution would become one of the most iconic and beloved scooters in history: Vespa.
