This episode was the season finale and marked the final regular appearance of Detective Nick Falco (Michael Imperioli), who was temporarily filling in for Ed Green. The story is loosely based on the 2005 Glendale train crash , where Juan Manuel Alvarez parked his vehicle on Metrolink tracks in a suicide attempt but abandoned it before the train struck, causing 11 deaths. It was also remade for Law & Order:
Mid-trial, Buckley fires his attorney, Rodney Fallon (played by Giancarlo Esposito), and chooses to represent himself, changing his plea to not guilty and claiming the incident was an accident rather than a suicide attempt or intentional act of murder.
