In the second season of The Orville , the episode titled "" (S2E3) serves as a pivotal character study and a major turning point for the series' security officer, Lt. Alara Kitan. Plot Summary

: Critics praised the episode for being a "tighter family story" that moved away from the show's early spoof roots into genuine character-driven drama.

The episode begins with a casual arm-wrestling match between Alara and the Isaac, which results in Alara’s arm being broken. It is discovered that her superhuman strength, a trait of her species (the Xelayans), is rapidly diminishing because she has spent too much time in Earth-normal gravity. To regain her strength, Alara must return to her home planet, Xelaya, where the gravity is significantly higher.

: Fans have debated the episode's portrayal of high gravity, noting that while the story focuses on the physical toll on Alara, it glosses over how higher gravity would realistically affect architecture and fluid dynamics.

: The episode is notable for featuring guest appearances by two legendary Star Trek doctors: Robert Picardo ( Voyager's EMH) and John Billingsley ( Enterprise's Dr. Phlox).

Upon returning, Alara reunites with her family, including her intellectually elite father, Ildis Kitan (played by Robert Picardo). Her family has long viewed her choice to join the military as a disappointment, considering it a career for those who lack the intellectual capacity for academia. However, when a pair of vengeful guests (played by John Billingsley and his real-life wife Bonnie Friedericy) take the family hostage, Alara must use her skills and intuition—unrelated to her physical strength—to save them.
