The series was born from a chance encounter on a transatlantic flight where Drescher convinced the president of CBS to hear her show ideas. Co-created with her then-husband Peter Marc Jacobson , the show drew heavily from Drescher’s real life in Flushing, Queens, even using the real names and characteristics of her family and friends for the characters.
