Mulder acknowledges that while he may not believe in Scully’s God, he believes in her . This shifts the show’s central "I Want to Believe" mantra from the extraterrestrial to the interpersonal. The "miracle" is not the absence of aging or the discovery of aliens, but the endurance of their partnership despite a lifetime of trauma.
