I found it on a corrupted external drive I bought for five dollars at a yard sale. Amidst folders of blurry vacation photos and dead tax software sat a single, compressed file: Volcano.Tower.rar . Most people would delete it. I clicked "Extract Here."
The screen went black. A new file appeared on my desktop: THANK_YOU_FOR_REPLACING_ME.txt . Volcano.Tower.rar
After three hours of grueling, pixel-perfect jumps, I reached the top. There was no boss. No "Game Over" screen. Just a wide, open mouth of white-hot code. My character walked to the edge. I found it on a corrupted external drive
I looked back at the screen. The Volcano.Tower.rar file was gone. In its place was a new archive, ready for the next buyer: Your.Name.rar . Volcano.Tower.rar
