The story of the "Land of Donkey Kong" (often called ) began back in 1981 when a stubborn gorilla first faced off against a carpenter named Mario.

Donkey and Diddy set off on a massive adventure. They swung through the Congo Jungle , blasted out of wooden barrels, and rode minecarts through dangerous caves. Along the way, they met their eccentric family:

One stormy night, while the jungle was thick with fog, a sinister group of pirates known as the crept onto the island. Led by the greedy King K. Rool , they didn't want gold or jewels; they wanted every single banana Donkey Kong owned. They believed that by stealing the island's food supply, they could starve the Kongs and take over the jungle for themselves.

The grumpy elder who claimed he was the "original" Donkey Kong from the 80s. Along the way, they met their eccentric family:
